As A SketchUp Beginner, what level of Computer Proficiency is required?
|
While Google SketchUp* is an easy and intuitive application, it does presume comfort with mousing skills typical of graphics and/or CAD type programs. Individuals who typically use the computer only for business uses such as e-mail and word-processing, will find the going much slower. The instructor does provide individual attention as required. However in order to complete the class content and to be fair to all class participants, individulas who consistently fall behind may benefit, at some points, from observing and following as a demonstration until the next new topic is begun. An entire class comprised of such individuals will require about 1 to 1-1/2 hours more class time per module (eg: Essentials 1) than a more experienced group. If you are an inexperienced computer user or if you are unsure of your mousing skills, Please advise us in advance so that we may plan the class accordingly. Please note, that, we may need to pre-arrange to provide extra class time (if beyond 15-20 minutes) at an additional charge .

Which class is for me?
|
To begin, we suggest assessing your comfort level with various Google SketchUp* concepts. The following recommendations may also help. The video tutorials mentioned below can be found at the following webpage:
http://sketchup.google.com/training/videos.html
For the Essentials 1 class, we suggest being comfortable with the concepts in the following video tutorials:
New to Google SketchUp - all sections.
For the Essentials 2 class, we ask that you view all the video tutorials in the Familiar with Google SketchUp in addition to the Essentials 1 recommendations.
For the Advanced Skills classes, we recommend completing Google SketchUp* Essentials 1 and Google SketchUp* Essentials 2 training courses or approximately 6 months of regular work in Google SketchUp*. We suggest being comfortable with the following skills:
- Creating 2 dimensional geometry.
- Creating 3 dimensional geometry.
- Connect and generate surfaces.
- Mirror a model.
- Create an array.
- Add and manage components.
- Use Groups and Components to isolate geometry.
- Edit, save and share components.
- Work with nested components.
- Swap (reload) components in a model.
- Infer points in 3D space.
- Use the Follow me tool.
The time you invest on the tutorials before the class will help ensure that you get the most from the training.

How much time is allotted for each 1/2 day course?
|
We allow 3.5 hours for each half day module. Morning classes typically begin at 8:30AM and end at 12:00PM with a 10 minute break half way. Afternoon classes typically begin at 1:00PM and end at 4:30PM with a 10 minute break half way through. However, there is a lot of material to cover and the participant composition of some classes dictates some small measure of extra time. We do endeavor to provide some additional time at lunch breaks and the end of day when required, and we ask students to be prepared for the possibility.
|
What do I need to bring?
|
Nothing. We'll provide handouts, manuals, and computers with Google SketchUp* already installed.
|
Can I recieve training on a Macintosh ®?
|
The Computer Labs that we use are equipped only with Windows® Platform. Hovever, if you wish to bring a Macitosh® Laptop with SketchUp* and Google Earth* preloaded, you may, and we will provide instruction specific to the MAC. Please advise us in advance that you wish to do this and we will provide you with the details on what software to load and how to get it.
|
How do I register and do I have to register in advance?
|
Yes, we strongly advise that you register in advance. Please note that seating is limited, as are class handouts and manuals. Walk-ins may only be accomodated if there is space in the class and time to pre-pay without delaying the start of the class. Registration is first come, first served.
On occasion, if we do not have sufficient enrollment within 10 days in advance of the class date, we MAY elect to cancel the class.
It is therefore best to register in advance to assure that the class you are interested in will be held as planned.

Can I take Essentials 1 and Essentials 2 in the same day?
|
You can take both classes in the same day; however, it isn't recommended for everyone. Each class is three and a half hours long, and there's a lot of material to absorb from the Essentials 1 class. It takes time to develop proficiency with the Essentials 1 concepts, and proficiency with these concepts typically makes the Essentials 2 class more enjoyable.
|
Can I take Advanced Skills 1 and Advanced Skills 2 in the same day?
|
Yes. For the Advanced courses, this is highly recommended. If you have sufficient SketchUp* skills to take an Advanced course, you will benefit greatly by taking both. There is a great deal of material to cover and each course is only 3-1/2 hours long. Advanced Skills 2, includes a large section on Terrain modeling may be of particular interest to Landscape Architects, but there is a huge overlap in the tool sets required by various interest groups. The two Advanced courses, taken together, provide the most comprehensive coverage for all professionals. Be prepared for an intense day of hard work!

Can I earn continuing education credits for Training?
|
Generally, the answer is yes, but at this time, this must be Self-Reported.
For your convenience we have provided, below, links to many National & Provincial Professional Associatons for further information on Self-Reported Continuing Education Credits.

While our 2 Essentials Courses are the same as those taught in the USA, licensed from Google SketchUp* and registered by them with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and/or the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) for continuing education accreditation, we are unable, as an independant Authorized Training Centre, to submit for credit on your behalf.
Our Advanced Courses are unique to Canada and this Training Centre. Individuals interested in either Canadian or US continuing education credit for Training Courses provided by Entourage Arts must contact the relevant association from the list below or any others that may apply.

If I've already paid for the class -- can I cancel?
|
With some exceptions, you may cancel your registration up to ten business days before the class and receive a refund of your registration fee less a 4% plus $2.00CA adminstration fee (this is charged by the credit card provider and cannot be waived). Should you cancel within two-ten business days, we will refund your money less the 4% plus $2.00CA admin fee plus a $75CA for each class or $50CA for each ONLINE class. We must commit to rent the computer lab space by 10 business days before the class date and are no longer able to cancel the class due to low enrolment after that date. While we do not pass along the full cost of our penalty, the small fee is intended to mitigate our losses.
Within 48 hours, there is no refund.
EXCEPTIONS FOR ONLINE COURSES: If you have elected to purchase a Manual for the online course and you wish to cancel, no refund maybe provided until the Manuals have been returned at the CUSTOMER'S EXPENSE. Should you wish to keep the Manual, you will be charged the full value of the course, no refund can be provided. The Manual contains the complete course and therefore we cannot give a refund.
Please be aware that you can send someone else in your place. To do so, notify the training department of the name change. To contact the training department, click here training coordinator..
Please mention the date and city of the class.
A rain-cheque for the training for a future date, is also available and may be a preferrable alternative.
